By all accounts, it appears that Jay Leno is back to his 11:35 time slot now that his prime time show has been officially cancelled by NBC. He is scheduled to start “The Jay Leno Show “at the end of the Winter Olympics and it will be shortened to half an hour.
But it still remains to be seen what Conan O’Brien will do. His options include saying yes, and taking the 12:05 to 1:05 slot - or leaving the network. NBC could keep paying him if it decides to keep him on the sidelines.
But O’Brien doesn’t seem to be content with the move. In a letter released yesterday, in which he takes sharp digs at NBC executives, he stated he won’t move “The Tonight Show” to 12:05. He states that he ‘I sincerely believe that delaying the ‘The Tonight Show’ into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. ‘The Tonight Show' at 12:05 simply isn't the 'Tonight Show.'"
The news has been a hot topic of debate on the web with many siding with O’Brien. Of course, late night hosts, including O’Brien and Leno, have been taking shots at NBC executives. And rightly so. The made a mess of an already bad situation.
