Facebook allows us to maintain our relationship with minimal time, effort and interaction. But at what cost? 57% of people now talk to their friends more online than they do in real life. 48% of 18 to 34 year olds check their Facebook as soon as they wake up. About 28% check it on their smart phones before they even get out of bed. With all this time spend obsessing with social networking, is there any time left for real life social interaction? Pretty sad commentary really.
I'm not on Facebook and this is one of the reasons. There are several others - including privacy issues and the fact that you need friends. Of course, most of the "friends" on Facebook are people you have never meet. But Facebook does have some redeeming qualities - I guess.
