My eldest received a counterfeit five-dollar bill this week and from what we can determine, it’s a fairly common practice. We contacted the store and the owner offered to replace the five saying “It happens all the time”. We contacted the RNC and they shrugged it off saying to bring it in and they’ll send it to the bank. However, my son wants to keep it as a souvenir.
That got me thinking as to who copies five-dollar bills and do they hope to get rich off of this? Seems like a lot of work, with some big consequences, for a small amount of cash.
But what really grinds my gears (thank-you Peter Griffin) is that a friend of a friend received one as change from a convenience store and immediately reported it to the clerk. She refused to take it back even though she had just given it to him! It’s the last time he’s going to Marie’s Mini Mart.
