Igor

It’s been a while since I posted, but it has been a hectic week. We escaped the ravages of Hurricane Igor relatively unscathed. No property damage and no loss of power. We are so thankful for that. Most homes in my neighbourhood were without power for two days and there are still regions in the province without power and basic services. Many communities are still cut off from the outside world and are running low on food, gas and even medical supplies. So, in the big picture, we got off easy.

The news coverage of the hurricane – particularly by the CBC – was outstanding. Geoff Meeker offers a great review of what the Mother Corp did during and after the storm. Kudos to all for providing updates and keeping people informed.

Hopefully, we won’t see the likes of Igor again. Although, I suspect we will see more and more major storms in the future. And when we fix the infrastructure, lets hope we upgrade so the damage won’t be as bad.

I guess Igor was a wake up call for all of us. Here’s hoping we heed the lessons learned.
