A New Low

I have never been a fan of Glenn Beck and his extremist right wing views. He is a sensationalist fear-mongering hack lacking any substance who seems to make things up as he goes. But yesterday, he fell to an all-time low – which is no mean feat given some of the vile he has spewed in the past – when he compared the political youth camp of the tragedy in Norway to “Hitler Youth”. Seriously.

On his radio program - fortunately his Fox television show was recently cancelled – he compared the politically engaged teens in Norway to Nazis stating that the camp "sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler Youth or whatever. Who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing."

Who does a camp for kids all about politics? According to CNN, Beck does. His “9/12 Project” that seeks to engage indoctrinate youth into the real or as Beck sees it, right America. Just as disturbing is that many Americans believe this. Partisan politics is alive and well in the US – just look at President Barack Obama’s and House Majority leader John Boehner’s prime time speeches on deficit reduction on Monday. The sides are so far apart, that a deal to increase the debt ceiling is in peril. The effects on world economies could be devastating.

Of course partisan politics is nothing new, but Beck’s extremist views, as asinine as they sound, only furthers that divide. And makes him look like a quack in the process.
