Kent State: Fourty Years Later

Today marks the fortieth anniversary of the killing of four students at Kent State University by the Ohio National Guard. The students were protesting the Vietnam War and many historians say this was the beginning of the end of the war in Vietnam.

There was a significant national response to the shootings where hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed due to a student strike of four million students. The event further affected the public opinion – at an already socially contentious time – over the role of the United States in the Vietnam War. More from Wiki.
