In today’s throne speech, Governor-General Michaëlle Jean hinted that the Harper government might change the wording of the national anthem. The Conservatives may ask parliament to "examine the original gender-neutral English wording" of the song.
Apparently, the lyrics "true patriot love in all thy sons command," is not gender inclusive (whatever the hell that means) and there may be interest in changing that line to something more inclusive.
Interest? From whom? And why now? After just wrapping up a successful Olympics where the anthem was sung often and with tremendous pride, the government wants to change it? Good lord.
You got to figure this gem comes from the Department of We–Got-Nothing-Better-To-Do Department. (That’s the same crowd at the Department of Redundancy Department.)
This political correctness BS is getting carried away.
And if they change the words to make it more inclusive, which “God” keeps our land glorious and free?
But they’d be wise to leave well enough alone and keep God in the anthem making everyone happy. After all, everyone knows she’s black.
